Beaches

The closest beaches are Cellars and Stoke (about 1.5 miles). There are superb stretches of sand at Mothecombe (5 miles), Wonwell (about 8 miles), Bigbury with its renowned art deco Burgh Island Hotel (12 miles) and Bantham (15 miles) which is very popular with surfers and wind-surfers.

Walking

There are many great walks from the house, one of the most spectacular being a section of The South West Coastal Path. This can be picked up in the village, or at the top of our lane, and from which there are breathtaking views in both directions along the coast.

Activities

The area is probably best known for sailing, boating and fishing and small craft can be launched at Noss Hard, just outside The Ship Inn. Boats are available for hire in Newton Ferrers.

Two public tennis courts and a children’s playground are 5 minutes’ walk away, at the bottom of our lane.

There is a riding school at Newton Ferrers and golf courses at Bigbury (14 miles) and Thurlestone (19 miles).

For a rainy day

Saltram House, a National Trust property is at Plympton (8.5 miles).

The excellent National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is worth a detour.

Plymouth boasts two theatres and a multiplex cinema.

Shopping

It is possible to pick up everyday food supplies and alcoholic and soft drinks from the Co-op in Newton Ferrers. There is also a post office/general store/newsagent, butcher and a dispensing chemist.

Sainsbury, Tesco and Morrisons superstores are all within a ten mile radius.
