Noss Mayo & Newton Ferrers

The attractive village of Noss Mayo is 5 minutes walk downhill from Travers. Noss Mayo is 11 miles east of Plymouth, and 21 miles west of Salcombe - click here to see our local maps page. This area is part of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Overlooking the estuary, Noss Mayo has an acclaimed dining pub, another more traditional local inn, a children’s playground and two public tennis courts.

Across the estuary (walkable across a causeway at low tide) is Newton Ferrers which has a small supermarket (open until at least 8 p.m. every day), butcher, post office and general store, pharmacy, another pub and a delightful tea room.

Seaside & countryside

If you walk 10 minutes uphill from the house you reach the sea and the West of England Coastal Path. There are terrific round walks back to the house (via the pubs) in either direction. You can find out more about these local walks on our 'Things to do' page.

Noss Mayo and the local area is great for walking, sailing, fishing and swimming from several good beaches. It is possible to hire a rowing boat in the village and potter around the river Yealm finding perfect picnic spots.

Noss Mayo is surrounded by stunning South Hams countryside and wild Dartmoor is just 11 miles away.
